What to expect.
What’s the process?!
book it
First off, let’s make sure we are the right fit. Communication, vision and connection. These are the pillars for an incredible session. We’ll settle on a custom offering and determine the date/location and off we go!
2. prep
Don’t worry you’ll have some homework! Google, Pinterest - all the fun. Share 5-10 images you find that inspire you for the type of session we’ll be having. Then share a few favorites of your own, this helps me provide a space to guide the session and capture you. Lifestyle is my jam - it’s about being able to look back at an image, and feel ‘seen’.
3. session time
Reminders with tips and a mini guide will be sent prior to your session. Then it’s time for us to relax, share laughs, embrace the awkward and tell your story! Outdoor sessions typically happen early in the morning or 1-2 hrs prior to sunset for the best light! Indoor sessions based on studio availability or lighting. For longer sessions, details will be discussed ahead of time.
4. delivery
If your package includes a preview, one will be shared within 72hrs and the remaining album will be delivered after. Delivery times for Lifestyle and Branding are to 3-4wks and Weddings 6-8 wks. Note this may vary during peak season.
Tips
wardrobe
Keep it simple, you and your loved ones are the focus here. Tips will be shared prior to your session in a reference guide, however we tend to stick to neutral / earthy tones and avoid busy prints, excessive accessories. That said, this is your session and we want to make sure we let you stand out!
Keep it simple and layer
Whether showing off staples in your wardrobe or shopping for a new look, keep it simple and comfortable. Maxi dress, sweats, trucker jackets, leggings, all are good choices as you feel confident in them. Ensure you can move around, cuddle up, run in the rain, or stand alone. Dress it up or down by adding layers to your outfit (jacket, shacket, scarf, vests, etc.)
Stick to ‘non-distracting’ prints
Sporting neutral tones ensures the imagery really focuses on you. That said, we don’t shy away from a good print as long as it’s not distracting and isn’t competing with others. A simple flannel over earth tones, a floral skirt paired with neutral top, a statement piece to partner with a casual outfit, they are all game.
Consider the season
Dress accordingly based on the season and region your session is taking place. For spring/summer, light and free. For fall/winter, bundle up and be ready for rain. Compliment your surroundings instead of competing with them. In a floral garden, wear solids to draw out the surrounding beauty. In the city, dress up, down, or classic denim. In the mountains, embrace cozy and flannel or be bold with formal wear.
Coordinate vs. matching
Instead of the old school approach of matching, aim for coordinating outfits and color palettes or tones to highlight the scene.
Make it personal
This is YOUR session, so let’s lean into it. Whether that means a serenade of a guitar, a four-legged friend tagging along, or highlighting an inside joke - let’s own it!
If you’re debating what outfit to land on for your session, feel free to reach out and we can work through this together.
Comfort level
Let’s face it, being in front of a camera can be awkward. Really - it can! My role is to provide you a safe space to be ‘you’. My approach is based on natural subtle movement and a few simple queues to let you settle in and enjoy the session. For any children it’s recommended to bring items to soothe or provide comfort (babies - pacifier, young children - books or personal items, etc).
Newborn Sessions
It can be hard to prepare for a session where really anything can happen. While we base the session on their mood and temperament we can work through feeding breaks, soothing moments, changing of diapers and just a case of the ‘fussies’. I’ve got you covered during, but there are things you can do to prepare for the ideal session.
Freshly changed diapers and feed within 1hr of session.
Avoid naps 2hrs prior to session if possible.
Have a few outfit options ready (avoid busy prints).
Layering options (jacket, robe, oversized shirt, etc).
Backup bottle on hand & pacifier or soothing mechanism.
For ‘in home sessions’ ensure session areas are decluttered.
Have a change of clothes handy - accidents happen.
Keep a burp towel available.
Postpartum your own mood on wardrobe can change day to day, what I say is to BE COMFORTABLE. Whether it’s a dress, leggings, sweats or a robe, don’t worry the images will turn out great - it’s about you and your loved ones!
